Have I mentioned the windows? These apartments are supposed to be newly renovated, but they apparently went cheap with the windows. They were so poorly insulated it was ridiculous. We had a draft all winter long and in the summer we might as well have been paying to cool down the outside. And have fun in May when the weather starts getting warmer and the building still hasn't turned on the AC. I swear it was a sauna in there. Not surprisingly though, the staff offices were always the perfect temperature even when the rest of the building was an oven.
They call themselves a "pet friendly" community...but they're not. Dog owners are limited to 3 on-site tiny patches of grass for the doggies to potty on. However, in order to reach those patches of grass one most walk past all sorts of no-doggie areas. God forbid your poor pooch lifts a leg on an ugly bush. Also, a lot of the residents themselves don't like dogs. I cannot tell you how many times someone got off an elevator or tried to close the door before I could get on. Um, hello? I have a dog under 20lbs with the most friendly face -- vicious? Definitely not.
And the marketing manager who promotes these events and tweets about them is incredibly annoying. She really hasn't a clue about social media marketing. And I can almost guarantee that all these glowing review from people with the Monterey in the "name" are from here. Maybe try to be a little discrete in your attempt to give the Monterey some credit.
The courtyard area is nice, but it's not pet friendly. The grills never had propane in them either. Oh and in the summer they hold these horrendous karaoke nights and if your apartment faces the courtyard be prepared to turn your TV up VERY LOUDLY.
The management there is crap. Pure crap. The staff [with the exception of the maintenance guys (Jerome & Quincy) and the concierge Pam] are terrible, rude people after you sign the lease. Take Leanne for example. She's supposed to be a friendly face at the front desk -- yeah, right. She is always in a terrible mood, never smiles, will only say hello if you say it first & then acts if she's doing you a favor. Pure rudeness.
The elevators in this building are always out of service. Always. I've waited an upwards of 10min for an elevator. The garage leaks lime or something disgusting that will ruin the paint job of your car. So basically, unless you got parking included, you're paying for them to damage your car. Awesome. Oh and the garage doors were always broken too. So much for controlled access.
Our biggest complaint is about the utility bills -- complete & utter rip off. So much so, that a large group of tenants are combining efforts to file a class action law suit against the Monterey. We paid an upwards of $200/m for electricity in a 1 bedroom all winter long. Here's the kicker, NOT ONCE did we even turn on our heat. We don't work from home so the only time we even used any power was in the evenings and over the weekend. Don't bother contacting Minol because they say that the Monterey controls the allocation. Don't bother asking The Monterey because they'll refer you to Minol. We were told that as more people moved into the building the lower our cost will be because the allocation will be distributed even more. Not so. As more people came, the higher & higher our bills got. I simply cannot wait to win this class action suit to really give the Monterey the big F U they deserve.
We recently moved from the Monterey after a year of living hell. Whenever an apartment complex is offering 2 or more months free, you know something is wrong. I have so many complaints about this building that I don't even know where to start.
And then there is Marcus, the recently promoted assistant property manager. Jerk. Such a jerk. For the last 2 months of our lease, after we put in our notice, he was so rude to us. No smiles. Painful hellos. Didn't even bother to explain to us what the move out procedures were. He lied to get us into the building and after we were there never even lifted a finger for us.
