The building is absolutely gorgeous but the exhibits are less than stimulating. That's a matter of personal preference though so if you like stamps and would like to know how the first mail was delivered in the United States maybe this is a place for you. I will say the people working there were friendly.
At first, when hearing that you would be going to a postal museum, one would think of it as a giant stamp collection worth millions. This the Museum did have, but they had a such a larger collection that anybody doesn’t even know exists in the postal industry. They had everything, from interactive experiences to keep kids busy and informative history lessons to make you appreciate the mail more. They had security of the mail, how mail, used to get around in the olden days, stamps and their worth, and so much more. This place definitely deserves a five stars!
This museum was not very large, but certainly worth checking out. Since it opens earlier than the other museums near the mall I highly recommend checking it out when it opens. If you do not have young kids then I expect no more than 30-45 min, if you have kids they will likely love the kid friendly exhibits and your stay maybe be upwards of 90min.
I was not sure what to expect when visiting the museum, but I have to say I was pleasantly suprised. The displays regarding the history were very interesting and well presented. The facility is stunning! I have never seen so many stamps! It was cool to connect with something that I've been fascinated with since I was a child. The care put into preserving and sharing this part of American history is truly impressive. I earned a new appreciation for the postal service after my visit.
This museum was better than I thought! I was at Union Station and had some time to waste till my train departed. I knew the museum was close by but didn't realize it was across the street from Union Station. The security was a tad extreme to get in, but better safe than sorry. The security guard greeting everyone was so sweet and nice. She even found us at the Inverted Jenny to tell my family about the make a stamp station and other features. Once we walked the first floor I thought that was it and was amazed at the second floor! My son had such a great time at all the exhibits! It was so interactive and great exhibits. I have a new found respect for the USPS. The museum was very informative, kid friendly, and very inviting. We spent about 2 hours here and my son asked to go back. It is defiantly a hidden gem out of the Smithsonian's.
