I wanted to check this place out before it closed. I heard it was a tiki themed bar, which you would never guess by the decor - it really just looked like a run down, hole in the wall bar. However, the tiki theme comes into play when you read the drink list! I was with a group of 4 friends, and we ordered the house punch bowl, which was a mixture of tropical juices and alcohol served in giant bowl with 5 extra large straws. In the middle of the bowl was a flaming shot. It definitely reminded me of a beach party drink, and it was quite strong.

It also doesn't hurt that they have a giant mural of Bill f'in Murray on the wall either!

I loved Hogo. It was my Third Space. I could walk over there for coffee from Vigilante during the day, or a fantastic tiki drink and the best wings in the DC region in the evening. I miss you so much, Hogo, and hope you are reincarnated soon.

Hogo was terrific. Bumpin' music at the perfect volume (conveyed a fun atmosphere without forcing you to shout), creative cocktails, rad space. Chesterfield booths are a nice touch. The space was plenty full and lively without feeling crowded. Another great spot by the Brown brothers.

What at great bar. They weren't serving food, so they let bring food or you can order pizza! My friends and I came here after a run and we were pleasantly surprised how busy it was as we heard it was closing down. Apparently it was always to be a short term venture as the building is getting sold. The drinks were good and the service was good as well. As stated in previous posts, very unpretentious. I would love to have it open longer!

Overall, the tropical drink menu makes this place stand out, but I found the dingy atmosphere to be pretty depressing.

DC was missing a seriously awesome Tiki bar and thankfully the Brown brothers remedied this. Every night there are new specials, some not as creative as others, but the names are always worth a laugh or two. This is predominantly a rum bar so be prepared as such. The bartenders are incredibly friendly and will whip up a custom drink with simply a cocktail you regularly drink.
