The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a must see on a first trip to Washington. I was looking for someone specific, and it was difficult to figure out who to ask or how to find out. I wanted a ....something .... to read, for directions.

crowded -not particularly peaceful.

A war that was so controversial, so long, with so many lost, and with so many Veterans still living, the Vietnam War Memorial was a beautiful experience. We saw the eagerness and pride for the volunteers to help find people find their loved ones, ready with paper and a charcoal. While this can never fill the void left from those lost, it does offer something for people to take with them, to feel connected to those that died. Not only are there people willing to help, there are also several books available to the public. My favorite part was seeing the Vietnam Era Veterans coming here, together, by themselves, with their families, etc. This shows they truly never left anyone behind.

The Wall is humbling, and just incredibly impressive. To see all those names of the brave souls, you can't help but feel gratitude for their sacrifice, and your heart breaks for them all. Beautiful. It's out in the open, so the length of your stay will be dependent on the weather.

Bring your Kleenex! A very moving experience. Helpful guides to assist you. So glad that I visited.

A very beautiful monument! It's surreal to stand in front of it and see all the names of those who died to protect us.

Seeing other people look for names, I wanted to know who they were looking for - family? friends? their POW bracelet name (like I was). Seeing elderly vets - in wheel chairs, walking slowly, escorted, was moving.

I eventually found a man who could look up the name I was searching for - he was a bit gruff when i didn't know the exact details he wanted (State, exact date of MIA or POW or KIA).
