I visited the botanic garden for the first time this December. I didn’t know what to expect during the winter, but i has a great time! They had holiday plants and decorations up, a train room and lots of tropical plants as well. In the main entrance they had iconic DC monuments and buildings made out of twigs, acorns, etc. (see pictures) My favorite was the orchid room. I went on a weekday and it was the perfect time to go - no crowds at all. Highly recommend!!
Also, many adults brought kids and babies with them. What is a baby going to do at a botanical garden? The walkways were very narrow in the conservatory and were easily blocked by strollers and kids having tantrums.
Came here while they had their Christmas decorations up; beautiful set up for taking pictures. They had a wide range of plant and flower species from around the world. There's sitting areas inside the diferent sections inside the garden and there's enough room to stop and admire something without blocking the way. The work they must put for the upkeep of this place is admirable. Definitely recommend it.
I liked this place...for the most part. They have plant/tree/flower specimens from all over the world and the displays are grouped into several ecosystems. The tags with plant/tree/flower names are often in between several specimens, so which is which?
I'm not a plant lover so I'll put that out there from the jump. This is a nice destination for a quick visit. The plant life is pretty, but they're really crammed in there. The facility isn't that big so it makes for getting crowded easily too. The plant life is sectioned off by region which I think is cool. One plus is that they have a planting/digging area for the kids. Very nice as it is hard to get the kids to enjoy a walk through the building and enjoy plant life. Not bad. Definitely go if you have never been, but I will not be the first in line to go back.
What a treasure hiding on Capitol Hill! It's a lovely Oasis where you can view all kinds of beautiful plants presented in clever and unique settings. Miniature versions of monuments and historical buildings are tucked in amongst the growth. And there's even a delightful model train! It's a smallish facility- easily viewed in an hour or so. AND ITS FREE!
