What a great place to walk and birdwatch! Unfortunately, you can only get there from the northbound lanes of the GW Parkway. The lone porta potty there is in terrible shape, BTW.
Beautiful walk and scenery! I wish you couldn't hear all the traffic sounds but it was still a beautiful place for a little fresh air. The ground was a little slippery and it wasn't very stroller-friendly.
A great place to get away from the usual crowds of DC. Maybe not very easy to get to, and maybe not as exciting as some other places, but peaceful and fun to explore, and you get to see Teddy standing around in the middle of a giant park.
Nice natural island in the Potomac with walking trails, a monument, and really nice views of Georgetown and Rosslyn. Evidence of trash on and around the island, pollution in the water, and fences around the foundation of the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. The island can get busy with people. There can be quite a bit of noise with jets flying above the island and cars above the east end of the island in the bridge.
Great place for a nature walk. Great place for Pokemon Go. Nice and cool as long as there is a breeze. Not wheelchair accessible. Tons of poison ivy. Wear closed toe shoes and stay on the trails and you'll be fine. There are drinking fountains and a restroom year round. Last time I was there rangers had ice water under canopy tents near the monument. The monument is beautiful.
