Nice area to sit and people watch, or wait for the next bus. You get a great view of The White House, and there are a few statues in the area. Everything is gated off so you can not get up close to the statues or The People's House. There are several bus lines that stop nearby so it is very easy to get to. It is a great start to walking and exploring what all the National Mall has to offer.
Kiwi view: best place to see the White House from front on. But disappointing that it's so far away. And West Wing is hidden by trees. Is this freedom? Very easy to just walk there and take photos. Good starting place for a walk down the Mall to the other monuments and then the museums. In winter they have the National Christmas Tree there which is not much but the kids liked the model trains
You can only get to some points around the outside. We were there early so it wasnt busy but we drove past it later and it was really crowded. Secret Service were really nice and helpful, showing us where the metro was to get back.
I cannot believe how much security there is, it looks like a fortified camp in the middle of an unfriendly country. 9/11 completely changed us, so their goal was accomplished. Good luck America.
Attended the White house Christmas Tree Lighting. Organized security checks. Ticket lines went through quickly. Security was efficient & thorough. Beautiful warm night!
