This place has all the things you may need right away. There's a gas station, wagshall's restaurant at the same time they offer to go orders for sandwiches. There's also CVS and a few banks should you need any banking transactions.

The bank, gas station, auto repair, cafe's, Thai restaurant, clothes repair and CVS + pharmacy take care of all your other needs in a lovely part of town. I have not had a negative experience here and would recommend it to anyone.
It's the default shopping center for the blue bloods in the immediate area. Over the last decade there has been more American University influence to the shops because of the adjacent old law school building. It has your basics.
I've been living in the area for two years and I would say this is my favorite neighborhood shopping spot. I get my groceries here - Wagshals has a wonderful array of services/offerings - bakery, patisserie, deli, full-service restaurant, full grocery including perishables and non-perishables of the highest quality/sourcing.
