Visited an office at Larchmont Village, got famished and saw Cafe Gratitude right across the street. At least two people warned me about it being vegetarian, and the meals being on the pricey side. Well, it's nice to go all green from time to time. As the helpful server says, "say I am (your order) when you order." So there I am Dynamic. It was a very flavorful vegan bibimbap, that made way for Evolve, a huge serving for samosas i didn't finish, but brought home to eat the next day, and were still so good! Indeed, a meal costs more than the average, but I don't mind paying extra for quality.
Overall, the service is as lackluster as the food. I'll next time I come to the area, I'm going to give Farewell a shot.
I tried the creative hemp burger and really liked it. It's very different from normal burgers in taste and looks.
I've tried a couple of other brands for Juice fasting. I think Khepra's juice products are the best I've tried to date. I previously ordered a 3 day juice fast which was delivered to my home. The food menu looks great, didn't sample any given the juice fast I'm doing. However, I couldn't give five stars because I ordered a 7-day juice fast which requires pick-up, I commuted all the way from VA to pick it up only to learn that I could only pick up the first 3 days and would have to return 3 days later to pick up the remaining 4 days. While I understand the juice can spoil after a few days without proper refrigeration/freezing, it would be a good heads up to customers coming from some distance away to know that in advance for decision making, preparation and setting expectations. I did not see where this is specifically stated when ordering the 7-day. Would I order again? Absolutely. But I'll probably do 3-day juices since I can get that delivered. I plan to return to try the menu as well, but it's pretty difficult time-wise, for me to get out to their location and parking can be a bit of a challenge as well. I do recommend anyone to give them a visit.
The meal in total (mixed bowl of different salads and unknown greens splashed together) was overpriced for the location and spartanic garage-like atmosphere.
Khepra's food and juice are fantastic. Some of the best raw food & juice around. The food is most definitely FLAVORFUL. So many favorites. The entrees on my favorites list includes (but not limited to) 'crab' cake, mushroom pizza, almond/walnut hemp burger, avocado nori roll and the sides are (but not limited to) seaweed & spinach salad, broccoli bites, creamy kale/collards, buffalo cauliflower, fruity kale, wild rice (too many to name). The desserts are also wonderful, as well as the juices (too many to name). Really great raw food & juice experience. YUM!!
I would have given 4 stars if it hadn't been for the poor service. There were 3 other entrees at the festival and I asked to try the 2 other entrees and offered to pay extra in which the staff refused unless I paid $14, $7/entree + 2 sides, which is ridiculous. I wouldn't mind paying $7 for both entrees combined for a 1/2 portion without any sides as I already got the sides with the sampler meal.
I think the place is better for take-away food and smoothies (they looked really interesting and creative, but I didn't try).
I was excited to try Khepra at H Street Festival and have been waiting for a while to try one of DC's few vegan restaurants. I got the $15 hemp almond burger with all of the sides. The burger was good, but wasn't a big fan of the bread. I could do without it. The sides weren't very good, everything was doused in sauce without much flavor. The only sides that were okay were the seaweed salad and broccoli. I got the watermelon lime drink which was good, but nothing really special.
