I swim my laps. Probably in the pool for 45 minutes. Dry off, change, get my stuff. In less than ten minutes the fraud department of my bank had called me. Someone had carefully swiped the credit cards out of my wallet. In 45 minutes. So glad they didn't take my ID and my phone was in my car.
I suppose I should be more careful in locker rooms.
Hard to argue with a free aquatic facility for DC residents, however this pool has a few short comings. Overall, the biggest problem is the cleanliness. The pool is often dirty and the locker room isn't much better. Has lap lanes and is a sizable pool, but I generally try and get in and out of the pool asap. The rest of the Turkey Thicket center is awesome, great recreation center!
Was in the neighborhood and wanted to swim some laps. So I call to hear about their policies. 7 dollars for non DC residents. No cash. OK, sounds fair. I'll just bring my wallet and leave it in a locker.
What looks to be a nice and clean pool is an actual pool that is dirty. The staff is so rude in particularly an elder lifeguard (guy). We were there no longer than 10 minutes when he was yelling across the pool. He was rude as ever and blowing his whistle every two minutes for no reason. The water was freezing even in the baby pool which is unacceptable. I am highly unsatisfied and will never bring my kids.
This place is great in the winter months, but horrible in the summer once school is out. And it isn't the crowds of kids, its the disgusting condition of the facility. The women's room is appalling; from broken showers, mold, and repugnant overall locker room conditions, (it reeks like urine) last night, I wouldn't even shower there when I was done. I drove home in a wet bathing suit, and in the two years I've been swimming here, this is a first.
Pool facilities are pretty nice. Lots of families taking advantage of the fountain and the life jackets.
It nice it clean a good place for a family to go have fun they got a gym and a swimming pool and a basketball court. U can play pool tennis and have a picnic all in the same place. They even have a lil splash park on the playground area. Like I said it is a nice place for a day of family time.
