The new elephant enclosure is amazing. You really get up and close to them.
Horrible experience! The worst zoo I ever even to. I understand it is a non-profit zoo but the zoo was horrible. No animals seen in the first 5 cages. The landscape was overgrown and was keep uptight. The zoo was also under construction but it seems like the zoo was just just there just because. Other than that, for a national zoo to be in the DC area, and for it to have an appearance like that was unacceptable.
In fact, we have not seen a lot of animals, only the elephant was there
I love the national zoo it's a very good place to enjoy yourself and learn lots of interesting things about animals. You can't beat free admission and when you become a fonz member aka friends of the national zoo you help with conservation efforts.By the way gifts and food that you purchase at the zoo also donate to conservation.
The place beautiful but miss many of animal and services.
It was peaceful and the gift shops were not lacking
