I will be posting more pictures as I find them in my millions of "Facebook mobile uploads" and checking back by here from time to time simply because the foursquare social networking site has just named me the "Mayor of the Holy Rod Cemetery" because my auto location thingy keeps saying I am at the cemetery even though I'm a block away at the Glover Park Starbucks! But I accept the job of Mayor and will do you proud!

For years I have noticed tomb stones being moved, knocked over and shattered even. The neighboring condo's on Wisconsin Ave have residents who are using the cemetery as a DOG PARK! Some of the pictures I am waiting to show you, is OF THAT and my Facebook updates were in anger and disgust as I told my 2500+ Facebook followers how the part they had chosen to let the dogs run was the exact spot they reported the slaves were buried in! They also got the detailed play by play of what happened when I let the dog owners know how rude and disrespectful it is to use ANY cemetery as a dog park!

People have been coming here to watch the Fourth of July fireworks for as long as I can remember? Families and neighbors from both Burleith and Glover Park flock to the hillside overlooking Wisconsin Ave and have a clear view of the Washington Monument and fireworks~

I gave the cemetery the 5 star rating as even though it needs work, help and big "NOT A DOG PARK" sign... It's still one of the most serene places I come to write and get away from everyone~

I recently took a break from my busy life as a stand up comedian who now sits on the patio at the Glover Park Starbucks (about a block up Wisconsin Ave) writing my comedy and gathering comedy material. I spent an afternoon writing here, in the Holy Rod Cemetery just like I had done back in the day~ I snapped some pictures to post on my Facebook page, as I tell my followers just about my every move and try to post pictures along the way, to let them see what I am talking about~ I have uploaded several of them HERE and they are (at this time) waiting for approval.

I have a long standing relationship with this cemetery. I grew up on 35 Place and the cemetery sits at the top of THAT street, through a small patch of woods. I used to come up here back in the 80's when I was a theatre major at The Duke Ellington School of the Arts and do homework or write my comedy, and just sit for hours~ It is peaceful and the view is amazing!

Best place for 4th of July

Someone should be watching a little better! Just coming by to cut the grass about once a month in the summer time isn't enough!

A few years back it was RUMORED that Georgetown University wanted to move the grave sites and "sell" the property? It was then researchers came out of the woodwork with the facts about "slaves" being buried in the back right corner? Rumor or not any sales were stopped!
